Ushering in Luxury: The Portage

Marlborough’s crown jewel, The Portage Hotel, is set to usher in a new era of modern luxury under its new management company, THC Group.

The tourism company has announced it will manage the recently refurbished hotel, which is located just a 10-minute walk from the acclaimed Queen Charlotte Track.

THC Group Chief Executive Ken Harris says the organisation, which includes a hospitality investments arm THC Properties, alongside the management and operations division THC Hotels and Resorts, is excited to breathe new life into the hotel.

“We are extremely proud to take on the running of The Portage,” Ken says. “Its central location makes it the ideal hotel for local and international guests to relax and enjoy the best of the Marlborough Sounds.”

The property has been completely refurbished, with new soft furnishings in all guest rooms, new carpet, flooring and furniture in reception and new internal and external paint work. “We have also re-opened all of our dining areas – including The Portage Restaurant and Bar, the Café and Lounge Bar and the Snapper Bar and Eatery, which has been closed for three years.”

There are several accommodation options, including premium suites and two-room elevated suites. “We see a real synergy between the stunning natural beauty of the area and the extraordinary environment offered by The Portage,” Ken says.

“To accentuate that connection, we’ve also paid careful attention to key detail in the refurbishment, such as renaming the rooms to reflect the iconic native birdlife found within the national park.”
