Saving lives: TriEx

TriEx has been a leading health provider for the three (tri) areas of service excellence (ex) in Health, Safety and Occupational Hygiene in New Zealand for more than 30 years.

Offering First Aid training in both Christchurch and Auckland, the team acknowledges that each workplace has different first aid risks and so in addition to public courses, they also provide businesses with a simplified and affordable range of tailored courses specific to their needs.

Employees can complete Unit Standards 6402 and 6401 in eight hours, ensuring they have the first aid skills to save a life.

TriEx also offers a four-hour Psychological First Aid course to help prepare learners to respond to a person who may be experiencing emotional distress in the workplace. Much like any First Aid treatment, Psychological First Aid is to help preserve life, provide help, promote recovery and provide comfort.

With one in five New Zealanders experiencing some form of mental distress during their lifetime, this course is designed to help break down stigmas around psychological distress and mental health by expanding knowledge and understanding to build acceptance and tolerance in our community.

The course covers what might emotional distress look like, how to approach a distressed person, Psychological DRSABCD, listening skills, suicide, anxiety, and workplace bullying.

All courses can be booked online by visiting For enquiries or bookings, phone 0800 487 439 or email

Protecting your team: TriEx

The flu is not simply a cold. It is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus and it is risky for both the people who have it and for the businesses where they work.

When someone who has the flu sneezes, coughs or even talks, the flu virus is expelled into the air and may be inhaled by anyone close by. How can you protect yourself and your work environment from the consequences of the flu? By having a flu vaccination, of course.

TriEx, a Gallagher Bassett Company, begins its programme of workplace vaccinations in both Christchurch and Auckland in late March. The team knows only too well how this disease can impact the efficiency and profitably of businesses and they encourage employers to join the programme. The businesses will benefit because of less downtime with sick staff and the employees’ likelihood of contracting the flu will be reduced.

TriEx’s experienced nurses visit workplaces to carry out the vaccinations. The company can also provide vouchers nationally for ease and flexibility for those staff not available on vaccination day. These vouchers can be redeemed at vaccinating Unichem or Life Pharmacies. There are also information packs to share with employees to help promote the flu programme.

The Ex in Excellence: TriEx

It’s a new look, and a new feel at TriEx, but the training is as first class as ever.

“There has been a lot happening in our First Aid department,” Marketing Executive, Brodie McPhail says. “Our new Christchurch office has the benefit of two training rooms, which means we have more options when it comes to running our First Aid courses.” Brodie says that with the extra space comes the added bonus of more availability to run public courses, or to host group courses, at the new building, situated at 128 Wrights Road. “A huge improvement to this new complex is that we can now offer plenty of onsite parking for our course attendees,” Brodie says.

The Christchurch team has grown with the recent addition of first aid trainer, Anatoly Khorozov. Other additional changes that will be noticed and appreciated include an upgrade to the First Aid booking site,, which offers a far superior customer experience. TriEx has been providing nationwide health, safety and wellness services for more than 30 years; its longevity undoubtedly based on the fact that the team consistently delivers excellence in its services.

A finger on the pulse: Life savings skills made fun and enjoyable

A first aid course that’s fun, unique and engaging, means those life-saving skills remain top of mind. TriEx has its finger on the pulse, offering unrivalled training.

The nationwide occupational health, safety and wellness solutions company of 30 years, tailor-makes flexible group classes for companies, including industry or workplace requirements. It also operates popular day-long public courses from the Sydenham premises, for individuals or groups in class sizes of up to 16.
“We get lots of feedback from people saying they were blown away – it’s not dull or boring as they were expecting,” Health and First Aid Manager Craig McGuigan says.
Chest compressions timed to the beat of Queen’s song ‘Another one bites the dust’ and the latest equipment, such as mannequins which light up, make for a memorable learning experience.
“Our engaging trainers teach the latest best practice. We have a former paramedic, a first responder, and a New York fire fighter, all with teaching excellence under their belts, sharing personal stories. They go beyond just compliance.”
Craig says realistically everyone should be trained. “Although most companies are required to have first aid representatives, they are not always on site and might even be the person injured. First aid skills are invaluable outside of the workplace too.”
A six-hour refresher course offers the chance to learn variety and new protocols, even if someone initially trained with another provider. “As a local and privately-owned company, we can respond to changes very quickly.”
Four-hour psychological first aid courses are also taught, for mental health wellbeing in the workplace – providing the tools to recognise and talk about it.
