Bringing the ritz to Rangiora: Ivory Bar

It is quite simply a gorgeous space redolent of 1920s New York, with its art deco wallpapers, stunning copper ceilings and chandeliers. This is the Ivory Bar in the heart of Rangiora, a reincarnation of one of Canterbury’s few surviving heritage buildings – the former Northern A&P Society premises.

A national finalist for ‘Best New Business – Food & Beverage’ at the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence, Ivory Bar is up against two other establishments, with the winner to be announced on 17 October. It’s not surprising, after all, everything you would expect from a great cocktail bar and restaurant is here.

The resident mixologist has an encyclopaedic knowledge of cocktails, as well as creating his own delicious concoctions. Happy Hour is 4pm-6pm every day while between 9pm-10pm during Ivory Hour, you’ll find cocktail and spirit specials.

On the menu there is something to suit all tastes from tapas and shared platters to burgers and chips, blueberry cured salmon or the signature Ivory Chicken with its secret herbs and spices.

Friday evenings feature talented local musicians; monthly on a Sunday afternoon is the time for jazz. Coming up on 31 August, James Daniels and Sue White from The Breeze will host a retro 80s Neon Night; a fantastic opportunity for a party and to dance “like no-one’s watching”.

The combination of glitz and glamour with a casual modern vibe gives Ivory Bar universal appeal. It’s a wonderful asset for Rangiora and a tribute to the vision of its owners and managers, the Beulink family.
