There has never been a greater time to re-connect with the powerful landscape of Queenstown.
Renowned as the Adventure Capital of the World, it is the Southern Hemisphere’s premier four-season mountain and lake destination.
With its wide range of attractions, you will never run out of things to do.
It’s time to re-discover our own NZ backyard and Queenstown has it all – from the best ski the country has to offer, to breath-taking hiking trails; from world-class cuisine to sophisticated wineries; from indulgent spas to thrilling adventures.
Right in the heart of it all is Crowne Plaza Queenstown, proving that location really matters for a hotel.
It sits on a privileged site, just opposite the historic Steamer Wharf and prime lakeside eating, drinking and entertainment destinations, with the great Coronet Peak ski field just a mere 25-minute drive away.
Regardless of the season, Queenstown is unique, stunning and guaranteed fun. And what better way to experience them than by staying in close proximity?
High tea is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, whether it’s a special occasion or a family event. Taking time out to indulge in the timeless art of catching up over tea (or bubbles!) and fancy treats served at your table is an increasingly popular option, despite its ‘old-fashioned’ origins.
WIN: To celebrate the upcoming Showbiz Christchurch production of My Fair Lady 3-18 April, Metropol has two individual prize packages to give away, both include a sumptuous high tea for two people at Crowne Plaza Christchurch and tickets for a matinee of My Fair Lady at 4pm, Sunday 13 April, Isaac Theatre Royal. These packages are valued at $200 each.
To enter, head to the post on the Metropol Facebook page and simply tag your ‘plus one’. Winners drawn 26 March.
Overlooking Victoria Square, Market Place Restaurant at Crowne Plaza provides the perfect setting to sip away the afternoon – pairing premium loose leaf T2 tea and expertly brewed Vittoria coffee (or Te Hana Reserve bubbles) with three tiers of sweet and savoury delicacies.
Highlights of the menu include freshly baked scones, assorted macarons and mini sandwiches, amongst other high tea classics.
Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available on request.
Since opening in 2017, Market Place has been a popular spot for social events and celebrations over high tea and the venue also hosts a lavish Mother’s Day event which continues to sell out every year.
Executive Chef, Hamish Watt, attributes the popularity of Crowne Plaza’s high tea to the freshly baked scones.
“We use fresh whipped cream in our scone mix which makes them more golden and buttery”.
High tea at Market Place is also the perfect accompaniment to the highly anticipated Showbiz Christchurch production of My Fair Lady opening 3 April.
An early afternoon high tea sets the scene perfectly for the 4pm matinees on 5, 12 and 13 April, with Crowne Plaza Christchurch just a short walk from the Isaac Theatre Royal.
For high tea bookings and information, head to www.crowneplaza.nz/hightea and for My Fair Lady tickets, visit www.showbiz.org.nz/mfl.
Crowne Plaza Christchurch is hosting their Christmas Lunch and Dinner Buffet at Market Place Restaurant! All the joy of Christmas feasting but without the preparation – what could be better?
Promising a day of decadent relaxation, Market Place will be wrapped in decorations with plenty of Christmas cheer and ambience, as resident pianist Peter Lewis performs live throughout the day.
The menu is filled with traditional classics; including sage and onion stuffed turkey, whole-baked Akaroa Salmon, and roasted leg of Canterbury lamb – plus all the salads and vegetables you could wish for. And, if you’ve still got room at the end, you can top it off with your pick of seven stunning dessert offerings.
For $149 per adult (including a complimentary glass of bubbles), and $49 per child (aged 6-16 years, while children under 5 dine free) – the whole family will be rolling out of Market Place very satisfied.
From the beginning of December, Crowne Plaza Christchurch will also showcase their annual gingerbread house.
Executive Chef Hamish Watt enjoys bringing the European tradition to Market Place Restaurant for Christmas. “I was at the German Christmas Markets when I saw all their gingerbread houses on display, and the amazing smell of ginger and mace has stayed with me ever since.”
No matter how magnificent the show, the evening isn’t complete without perfect pre-theatre dining. The divine Market Place Restaurant at Crowne Plaza is just a five-minute walk from three of Christchurch’s premier performance venues: Isaac Theatre Royal, Christchurch Town Hall, and The Piano.
Market Place’s popular pre-theatre menu is available between 5:30 and 7:30pm, and is amazing value at $49 per person for entrée and main, or main and dessert, with a drink included! Showcasing Canterbury, the seasonal menu, created by Executive Chef Hamish Watt, features suppliers such as Akaroa Salmon, Wakanui Beef, Mountain River Venison, and Robinsons Bay Olive Oil.
As well as being a supporter of the flourishing future of our city, Market Place Restaurant takes its name from the city’s pioneer era and the first commercial centre of Christchurch, the Market Place, which was located across the road where picturesque Victoria Square now sits. Here, town and country met to exchange fresh produce, livestock and manufactured goods in a central location. Local historians have also pointed out that one of city’s first hospitality establishments, the ‘Golden Fleece’, once occupied the same site as the Crowne Plaza.
If you’re not in search of a comprehensive dinner, Crowne Plaza also proudly presents the modern Social Wine Bar on the ground floor. It’s the perfect spot for a drink or light meal to start your evening, and offers an impressive range of cocktails. With their new dessert wine and cheese board special available, a visit after the show is also a must. You never know who else you’ll see at Social!
