Sit back, relax and explore Christchurch, say Caroline and Murray of Caroline’s Kombi tours, who would like to wish everyone a happy New Year Tau Hou Hari. “To see our city continuing to grow makes us feel proud to be Cantabrians. There are new things opening all the time and many visitors, particularly the older generations, would enjoy a city tour to see what’s happening.”

One of Christchurch’s many attractions is the amazing, world-renowned street art – from sculptures by famous artists, to the woven maps of welcome – Ngā Whāriki Manaaki – and the street lamps in the solidarity grid, as well as the art galleries promoting local artists including Canterbury Museum, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, Toi Moroki CoCA, The Central Art Gallery, PG Gallery 192, and many more. “With the regeneration of the city, the arts have been very much involved in the healing and given positive strength to rebuild to our city again.”

One of the most prestigious examples of street art is of the late Parihaka elder, Whero O Te Tangi Bailey, known to many as Poppy. This amazing woman has been painted on the side of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Christchurch. The mural is painted by Canadian street artist Kevin Ledo and based on a photo taken by New Zealand photographer Stu Robertson, as part of his Peace in 10,000 Hands project to renew the conversation for peace.

Art is a huge part of our culture without us being aware of it, Caroline says. “I read a lovely quote from a woman that I wanted to share, who said that art is important as a way of exploring and understanding the world around us. She said, ‘we are not art experts but whether it’s creating our own art, visiting museums and galleries or finding beauty in the world around us, I value these special moments as a family’.”

Along with Super Senior tours and Food tours, tailored tours for special events or corporate outings are also available. Caroline and Murray provide a fun-filled experience, sharing wonderful stories and fun facts, along with their extensive local knowledge. “We enjoy meeting new people and would love to take your family, visitors or grandparents on a journey to showcase the arts, but of course we also have other tours available. We take great pride in providing our customers the best possible experience.”
