Officine Voluptas

Opening the Curtains on Luxury: Officine Voluptas opens bright new showroom

Curtain store Officine Voluptas is thrilled to announce it has moved home from the character building in Picton Street to a beautiful and bright new showroom in the complex at Thirty Five on Riccarton. With parking at the door, the showroom is located in a café and restaurant heartland, so you can ponder your curtain and blind choices at leisure over a latte or a lychee tea.

Officine Voluptas

With Officine meaning workshop in Italian, and Voluptas being the Roman Goddess of pleasure and enjoyment, you certainly feel you have entered a workshop that diverts the five senses. The showroom is a riot of curtain options in every colour, weight and texture, with fabrics varying from velvet to silk to sheer and each room in your home catered for. The only difficulty in this temple of fabric fancies could be deciding which to choose.
Fortunately, Retail Manager Kris Yang and his team of three circumvent that issue by presenting most curtain fabrics displayed in a full drop, rather than just as tiny fabric samples. You get a graceful preview of the finished effect of the curtain.
The team is currently excited about helping you get your home cosy for the cold months. All clients this winter will receive free black-out weight lining with their new curtain order. The large range of winter-weight fabrics includes a luxurious 95 percent cashmere option.
Kris says they will work all around the South Island, with many orders coming from the Southern Lakes area. Clients based in Christchurch and its surrounds receive free aluminium tracking, free hanging and, of course, free measure and quote.
You’ll find blinds and sunscreens as well, and all are made to measure at very competitive prices, because they are created in the company’s own factory in Auckland. The fabrics are sourced from New Zealand and China, while the roller blinds come from Australia. Most fabrics are in stock for immediate use, but should you choose something that isn’t, it will be air freighted in immediately. Where fabric is in stock, your new curtains and blinds can be hanging at your windows in under three weeks.
An established business in Auckland for almost 20 years, the company expanded to Christchurch in 2016, being sure to bring the south its goal of ensuring you “receive high quality curtains at a very reasonable price”.
Officine Voluptas offers a two-year warranty on all its fabrics and installation. The team would love to see Christchurch people in the new showroom and for out of town clients to phone

Villa 23 Cafe

A rare city treasure: Villa 23 Cafe is the bright pink, Dutch, vegetarian cafe you didn’t know you needed but won’t want to live without (and it’s for sale!)

The secret is out about Villa 23 Café, New Zealand’s first and only Dutch vegetarian café with the ambient charm of a rare city treasure. Hedwig Dunbar-Keek and family have infused creativity into this gorgeous stand-alone villa. It’s now seeking a new owner, with new passions.

Villa 23 Cafe

“It’s a central location, with little competition, between Blenheim and Riccarton Road. It would be perfect for any restaurant, culinary dream, or a combined office space,” she says.
An interior designer from Amsterdam, Hedwig wishes to move on to her next project spending precious time with her gorgeous new granddaughter while concentrating solely on her Dutch-style catering business.
The landlord let Hedwig recreate the once drab, unnoticeable villa with colourful imagination. Amazing Dutch-designed wallpapers add delightful difference to the disco-glam ‘Arabian nights’ room, the light-filled ‘colour room’ and the must-see optical illusion bathroom. Husband Gregory restored its soft-pink exterior, polished floors and sturdy structure to its 1911 glory.
Her son and barista Quentin greets customers, while Hedwig conjures no-nonsense-great food from the spacious new kitchen. The café oasis serves Peruvian-origin coffee to the lucky customers working in the area – and many pop in for Dutch grocery items. The healthy award-winning smoothies, little Dutch poffertjes and oliebollen are delectable and specialties which are also sold at their Dutch stall at Deans Bush market on Saturdays.
Hedwig is off to Amsterdam this winter for her annual inspirational research. However, for interested parties, she can be contacted at mandeville23a@gmail.com, anytime.

Flow Hot Yoga

‘Yoga therapy’ next level therapeutics: Flow Hot Yoga welcomes yoga icon Vincent Bolletta

As a continuation of Flow Hot Yoga’s dedication to healing and safe yoga, it is offering yoga therapy training with New Zealand’s foremost yoga instructor and teacher trainer Vincent Bolletta.

Flow Hot Yoga

He is the founder and director of the Hañsa Yoga International Studies and co-founder of the Centre for Contemporary Yoga Studies in Auckland. Vincent travels all around the world leading teacher trainings in the art and science of yoga therapy and has worked alongside New Zealand’s top athletes. He will present training at Christchurch’s Flow Hot Yoga.
Yoga therapy is a practice. The term used for learning the therapeutics of yoga at a deeper, more involved level, it supports the practitioner and teacher more than basic yoga training. It is part of an advanced yoga teacher’s toolkit but even those with no yoga experience can do this training as it is a fantastic qualification to have. There are cross overs in careers such as massage therapy, occupational therapy, and body workers, many of whom learn yoga therapy and apply its principals in their work.
New yogis on their teacher journey will find Hañsa yoga therapy training a wonderful way to support their students. It expands the conversation into other modalities such as mediation, irest Yoga Nidra, Yoga Therapy, Anatomy and, of course, their training of choice in practical and theory on yoga Asana or anything from Ashtanga to Vinyasa to kundalini. Visit www.flowhotyoga.co.nz to book your space at this sought-after event.

Dose Café

A deliciously decadent dose: so many reasons to visit Dose Cafe

Rarely does a café tick every single box. The food, coffee, location, service and parking – all in a fantastic funky atmosphere. Dose Café does it so well.

Dose Café

The memorable breakfast menu is available seven days a week, until 2:30pm, with the French Toast being voted in the media as the top in town! The house-made brioche could be reason enough, but this paradise on a plate includes streaky bacon, sherbet mascarpone, vanilla ice cream, vanilla bean custard and Cointreau berry compote; decadently different, delicious – and very Dose Café. With sharing menus to cabinet food, it’s exciting, varied gastronomy.
The regulars are welcoming soup season. “The soup of the day is house-made fresh,” says owner Andy Shiau. “Last year our seafood chowder was so popular.”
Position-perfect on Blenheim Road, this neighbourhood café is the last refuel stop heading into or out of town – an escape haven, and just seven minutes from bustling Westfield Riccarton. Off-street parking makes popping in for takeaway coffee easy – for a double shot of Lyttelton Coffee Company’s finest that Dose Café does so well.
Popular as a function venue, the spacious interior’s large tables can be reconfigured or removed to cater for every sort of soiree from after-work parties to 21sts. “There’s no booking fee with a minimal spend,” Andy says.
“Our chefs are flexible, designing menus for each function’s requirements, for up to 120 guests.” There are craft beers, great wines, creative cocktails, and about 50 available carparks for evening events.
Dose Café, 295 Blenheim Road, Riccarton opens weekdays 7.30am-4pm and weekends 8.30am-4.30pm. Visit www.dosediner.co.nz.

Seven Cafe

A cool cafe vibe: a visit to Riccarton’s popular Seven Cafe

The atmosphere in Seven Café at 11am is warm and welcoming. “This is coffee time and people really enjoy getting together for a chat,” says Vivi Xu, café owner.

Seven Cafe

As one customer is about to leave the café she remarks, “I especially like the vibe here. Do you cater for private functions? I have been looking for somewhere casual and not too big for my daughter’s 21st birthday celebration.”
She has come to the right place. Seven Café is very popular for 21st birthdays – or any birthday bash for that matter. It’s perfect too for corporate functions, engagement parties, baby showers or hens’ parties. From 5pm onwards, the café transforms into a function space for the exclusive use of the customer who has booked it.
“We have room for up to 50 guests,” Vivi says. “Our usual liquor licence is until 11pm, but we can assist customers to apply for an extended licence if that is what they require. In keeping with the informal theme for which we are known, we provide platters with all different kinds of finger foods – meats and cheeses, savoury items and sweet treats. People can simply help themselves.”
But Seven Café offers more than the inside of the café itself. Its outdoor marquee and courtyard can be booked for groups of 10-30 during the usual opening hours. It’s a unique meeting space ideal for breakfast, working lunches and meetings – and of course the café’s famous and much sought-after ‘High Tea’.
To enquire about holding your function at Seven Café call 03-348 1886 or email

Merrell

Style & protection: women’s clothing should do both says active lifestyle brand Merrell

Embrace nature without sacrificing style in women’s clothing from Merrell. It can be challenging to find women’s clothing with the right balance of comfort, style and protection when facing competing elements outside – and of course style also matters when it comes to women’s lifestyle and active wear.

Merrell

“That’s why we make sure you’ll still look good while you brave the elements of the rugby side line, netball courts, or yourself out there working up a sweat, by providing an array of protective women’s outdoor clothing, featuring modern and athletic designs made with premium materials,” says Retail and Apparel Co-ordinator Clare Schrader.
Whether you need pants or shorts, shirts, jackets or accessories, Merrell has all the layers of women’s clothing needed to stay strong and productive on any path.
With a new footwear line also heading into store, there are many different options available. “If you’re jet-setting off away from the approaching winter, we have the Zoe Sojourn range which allows you to ‘pack light and live big’. Or perhaps you’re ready to hit the tracks in our Siren Hex Q2 Engineered mesh hiker, offering gender-specific stability, alignment and support.
“Women can accomplish great things in nature, and our gear can help. Enjoy the journey, but make sure the right gear from Merrell comes along too.”
